Welcome to 59° North – Sanday, Orkney
Set within eight acres of wildflower meadow on the beautiful island of Sanday, 59° North is our family-run business in one of Orkney’s most northerly islands. From our elevated position, we enjoy sweeping panoramic views across the sea to seven neighbouring Orkney islands, with several lighthouses visible on the horizon. Roos Wick Bay is just a short 500-metre walk away, placing the sea, wildlife and wide-open landscapes of Sanday right on our doorstep.
Our story began in 2021 when we opened Orkney’s first dedicated motorhome Aire, providing a peaceful place for self-contained motorhomes to stay for a few nights while offering facilities for fresh water and responsible waste disposal. Inspired by the Aires found throughout mainland Europe, it offers visitors a simple and relaxed way to experience Sanday as part of a touring holiday.
In 2022, we opened our wood-fired pizzeria and café – the most northerly wood-fired pizzeria in the UK. Since then, 59° North has grown into a much-loved island destination, receiving a number of local and national awards for our food, visitor experience and unique approach to island tourism. As the business has grown, we’re also proud to have created much-needed local employment for more than 10 people, helping to support Sanday’s community and island economy.
In 2026, we added Clickimin, our first luxury self-catering croft cottage. Dating from around 1790, the traditional Orkney cottage has been completely restored and reimagined for modern island living, with beautiful interiors, luxurious furnishings and a fully enclosed, dog-friendly garden. Designed especially for two, it provides a peaceful base from which to explore Sanday – or simply switch off and enjoy the view.
Today, 59° North brings together our pizzeria and café, motorhome Aire, luxury self-catering accommodation, car hire, printing and our growing range of Sanday merchandise – all from our little corner of this remarkable island.
