Motorhoming at 59° North
We’ve travelled by motorhome ourselves since 2012, so when we opened Orkney’s first dedicated Motorhome Aire in 2021, we created the kind of stopover we’d want to find on our own travels.
Set within eight acres of wildflower meadow, the Aire has panoramic views across the surrounding islands and sea on three sides. Roos Wick Bay is just a short walk away, while the rest of Sanday’s beaches, wildlife and archaeological sites are waiting to be explored. Stay for a night on your way around Orkney, or slow things down and give yourself a few days to discover the island properly.

A note about electric hook-up
As you’d expect on a small island, our electricity supply is more limited than you might find on a large mainland campsite. Our hook-ups are 6 amp, which is common on European Aires and is plenty for normal motorhome use. Low-wattage campervan kettles, toasters and appliances up to around 1400W are suitable. High-powered appliances such as domestic kettles, air fryers and induction hobs may trip the supply, so please leave those switched off while connected.
Shop local while you’re here
Sanday has two excellent, well-stocked island shops, who both sell petrol and diesel. Small island businesses depend on visitors as well as local customers, so we’d really appreciate you supporting them during your stay. You’ll find groceries, drinks, fuel, gifts and plenty of local products on the island – so there’s no need to arrive stocked for an expedition!
